A new study group will focus on Plain Weave in its many forms, (potentially) including balanced, texture, warp faced (rep), weft faced (tapestry, rugs), diversified (thick & thin), color & weave (log cabin, houndstooth), clasped weft, hand-manipulated lace (leno, Brook’s Bouquet, Danish Medallion, Spanish Lace), doubleweave, and Moorman technique. The group agreed to meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 2:30 pm, round-robin at group members’ homes, starting on Sept. 17 at Amalia’s house (address will be given via listserv). The first meeting will be organizational: consider the various topics above (or suggest one of your own!), bring your calendar, and come prepared to sign up to research and lead at least one topic at a future meeting. Discussion leaders need not be experts in their chosen topic, just willing to find a few articles to recommend to the group at least 1 month ahead of time and get the discussion going. A book of woven samples or other group project will probably be produced. Also, a Plain Weave discussion is currently scheduled for the February 4 regular guild meeting and we hope to enlist the members of the study group for a report on their activities to date.
