Guild Program and Events Calendar 2022

UPDATED October 5, 2022

Regular Guild Meeting Programs

(General topics, program titles may vary; Dates or program order are subject to change, watch the listserv and the Next Meeting box on the home page for updates):

June 7: Video Night: We’ll view a video about twills from Sally’s collection.

July 5: Tools ‘Potluck’: Bring and discuss one or more weaving tools that you find useful but others (especially our beginning weavers) might not know about. Do you have household items that have found a new purpose as warping aids, floating selvedge managers, or treadling trackers? Did you find a great old-fashioned weaving tool at an estate sale? Let us in on your secrets! (Beginning weavers: what do you struggle with? Maybe others have the answer!)

August 2: Show and Tell: Bring your recently woven items (or photos or samples, if the items have already gone to recipients) as well as project notes and inspirations that others may find useful.

September 6: Crackle Weaves: Sue G. will lead a discussion of this weave structure and its many applications. Others who have examples of crackle weave are encouraged to bring them.

October 4: Guatemalan Textiles: Erika, Dottie, and Larisa will show and discuss examples of textiles from Guatemala. SPECIAL LOCATION: we’ll be meeting at Larisa’s house; directions will be sent to the listserv as the meeting date approaches.

November 1: Sources of Weaving Inspiration: For this round table discussion, bring examples of inspiration for your weaving projects. Did you choose colors to coordinate with other decor, or perhaps your color choices were influenced by a photograph or painting that you like? Did you choose a draft because it gives a sense of time (old-fashioned, modern) or place (typical of places you’ve lived or visited)? What are other ways to inspire ourselves and each other when we get into a weaving rut: exchanges, challenges, competitions?

Sunday, December 4, 12:30 pm: Mathematical Exploration and Holiday Party at Erika’s house: Erika will host a holiday potluck lunch: contributions will be coordinated via the listserv and directions will be posted there. Sybilla will give a short presentation on her mathematical explorations with regard to weaving and then invite feedback. Festive holiday show and tell items are encouraged.
